Central Heating Upgrade in Basildon

The Brief

A homeowner in Basildon, Essex had been struggling with cold radiators and poor heat distribution for some time. Several rooms were barely warming up even when the boiler was running hard. After calling GJS, Gary visited to assess the system and identified a build-up of sludge restricting circulation, along with two radiators that had corroded internally and were no longer performing. The homeowner wanted the whole system working properly again, with every room reaching a comfortable temperature.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Power flushed the system: A full power flush cleared the sludge and debris that had accumulated in the pipework and radiators over the years, restoring flow throughout the system and protecting the boiler.
• Replaced two radiators: The two worst-performing radiators were removed and replaced with new units, properly sized for each room to ensure efficient heat output.
• Rebalanced the heating system: With the new radiators fitted and the system clean, Gary balanced the flow across all radiators so heat is distributed evenly, with no room running hot while others stay cold.
• Checked and tested everything: The boiler, pipework, and all radiator valves were checked before and after the work. The system was run up to temperature and confirmed even heat across every room.
• Left the property clean and tidy: All old parts were removed and taken away. The work areas were left clean and the system was handed back ready to use.

The Result

A heating system that works the way it should. Every room now reaches a comfortable temperature, the boiler is no longer straining against a restricted system, and the homeowner has noticed a real improvement in how quickly the house warms up. The power flush also extends the life of the boiler by reducing the corrosive effect of sludge on internal components.
